As always this year’s Funfair was received very well by our Parents, students and friends. ACADEMICS

Judging by the results on the end of term reports, positive effects are being seen.  In general, the marks and averages have improved. We are sure that this trend will continue into the future. We are also confident that our Year 6, 9, 11 and 13’s are well on track to achieve their goals for their CIE exams next term.

The two Parent’s afternoons this term were well-attended and the feed-back indicates that parents were very happy with the school.

March 5th was World Maths Fun Day and our students participated in an online maths competition.

Mid Year and Mock Examinations

We congratulate the students who achieved brilliant results and celebrate with those students who have managed to improve their individual results – especially those who have worked to their potential during these examinations.

 YOUTH IN ACTION

In our contemporary living we often take many things for granted. Just think …. How many people seem to be cleaning after you to ensure that you are comfortable? To be more proactive and cut on complacency ‘Youth in Action Club’ was born. Every Monday the members of this club moved from their comfort zones and either swept, mopped or cleaned an area to experience what the support staffs go through daily.

This was recently extended to the    Community when a group of 15 students from secondary went to clean up the heavily polluted Ngarenaro River. It was quite a challenge and none of us believed they could get in but they soon realized they had to. The gloves and gum boots came in handy in cleaning all manner of waste. This venture has encouraged the residents and town council to continue cleaning the river. Thanks to Joanne for organising, youth in action for their participation and the accompanying teachers.

Trips :

LUSHOTO: This term, the Year 10 all learnt how to put up a two man tent, on their adventure trip to Lushoto - Usambara, held in January. The group had a great time on the trip. They participated in walks around the breathtaking mountains and got a feel of the local culture, and got lots of laughs, too! They really enjoyed sharing activities and duties.

Kilimanjaro: While we prepare for holidays our year 9 students are busy scaling to the roof of Africa- highest point in  Africa and wish them ALL THE BEST in this arduous task

10 Ways to prepare for SUCCESS!!
Success takes time, planning and a strong desire. Success means developing a plan and accomplishing your goals. Success is taking action even when the going gets tough. How do you develop a solid personal foundation to build on for your success?

1. Education - The importance of education cannot be overstated. It does not stop when you leave school. Become a continuous learner. Read more, ask questions and listen.

2. Skills Inventory - Do a realistic assessment of your strengths and areas that need improvement. Determine to improve in those areas that need your attention.

3. Develop a Plan - Write down a plan for your success that includes goals, individual

action steps and a timetable(s) for completion. Answer these questions: What do I want? How will I get it? When do I want it?

4. Find Inspiration - Find a role model or mentor who can be your trusted advisor. Find someone who has the experience and knowledge to guide you. Surround yourself with people who can help you reach your goals.

5. Exceed Expectations - Be determined, dependable and responsible for your words and actions. Become the "go-to" person in your group.

6. Set Realistic Goals - Set goals that will stretch your capabilities. Build on the successes of smaller goals. Reward yourself after you reach each goal.

7. Use Your Time Wisely - Manage your time or be mismanaged by it.

8. Help Others - Mark Twain once stated: "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." Successful people know the importance of helping others.

9. Offer Solutions - Don’t find fault; find a solution. Separate yourself from those who make excuses, complain or are judgmental of others. If you make a mistake, turn it into a learning exercise.

10. Maintain a Positive Attitude - Believe in yourself, visualize your future success and develop a can-do attitude. Success breeds success.

BUS DRIVERS

We are requesting all parents who make use of bus transport to remind the bus drivers of school hours. We will inform the bus drivers as well. Bus drivers should NOT leave the school grounds before 3:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students make appointments to see teachers after school and are then left behind by the bus drivers who want to leave after school. Bus drivers may NOT leave unless ALL students are on the bus, even if it is after 3:30pm. Bus drivers may NOT leave students behind who are meeting with teachers after school. Many students are not making appointments with teachers to discuss their problems out of fear that they will be left behind. We are requesting parents to please support us in this matter. Please speak to the driver of the bus your children are using and remind them of these arrangements. This arrangement does not count for students who are merely wasting time by talking to their friends or hanging around the tuck shop.
