A very busy year is almost over. Students and teachers are looking forward with great anticipation to the long holiday before us. We wish to express our gratitude to the staff, students and parents who have contributed to life at SCIS during the year.

Some of our teachers are leaving and we would like to appreciate their hardwork while at SCIS and wish them all the best in their teaching careers in their new postings.

This year has been full of achievements and listing all them would be impossible, I am however happy to note the great achievements in academics with excellent results at all levels – IGCSE, AS Exams producing top students in 3 AS Subjects and IGCSE Accounting top in the world candidate for 2009 examination sessions, and Checkpoint all being good pointers to the dedication by all stake holders – teachers, parents and above all else students who work so hard and tirelessly.

Students’ lives were enriched in many ways other than academics: theatre, variety show, language evening, debates, treasure hunt, water games, talent hunt, art exhibition and science fair. This no doubt has revealed student skills and talents previously hidden from the rest of us. The students took part in numerous school

and class trips; this has widened their horizon beyond the classroom, some of the students and teachers conquered the highest peak in Africa, congratulations to the Team – PAMOJA   TUMEFIKA.

We have continued to grow in sports and students excelled in many disciplines that include Swimming, football, basketball, netball, volleyball and most recently rugby where three of our students were selected to join the national junior rugby team. Thanks to all the teams for your school spirit and the PE Department for making all this success possible.

We would like to thank the incredibly dedicated staff of SCIS, the most caring and supportive parents, and, of course, the absolute best  students in the world for a fabulous year. Enjoy your holidays.

Primary Department

As another successful year draws to a close we would like to thank students, teachers and all other staff for their efforts towards our continuing success.

Our little ones have become writers, readers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, geographers, swimmers, athletes, artists, French speakers, musicians, computer whizzes and most importantly, they have become their own people, developing their personalities while making new discoveries!!

Please celebrate your child’s successes with them. Talk about the things they are now able to do that they were not capable of at the beginning of the school year. Encourage them to use their new skills during this long break. Encourage them to read and write every day.

Our older children have also come a long way. They have grown to be more responsible and more mature. Their path through another year of education will have included highs and lows, which are all important as they try to make sense of the world and their place in it. We have come to the end of the examinations, so take time to commend your child on their efforts and remind them that each year is a small step on their journey to adulthood. The year six children completed their Cambridge International Primary Examinations. The results are due in mid August.

Remember, during the holiday enjoy the time for welcome relaxation, but let us keep on encouraging our young learners to practice their skills and take time to read.

All the Infants and primary staff thank you for your support. Together we work to help our children be the best that they can be.

Please enjoy this break with your children. Stay safe and we all look forward to seeing you for a big 2010/2011 year.

10 Ways to prepare for SUCCESS!!
Success takes time, planning and a strong desire. Success means developing a plan and accomplishing your goals. Success is taking action even when the going gets tough. How do you develop a solid personal foundation to build on for your success?

1. Education - The importance of education cannot be overstated. It does not stop when you leave school. Become a continuous learner. Read more, ask questions and listen.

2. Skills Inventory - Do a realistic assessment of your strengths and areas that need improvement. Determine to improve in those areas that need your attention.

3. Develop a Plan - Write down a plan for your success that includes goals, individual action steps and a timetable(s) for completion. Answer these questions: What do I want? How will I get it? When do I want it?

4. Find Inspiration - Find a role model or mentor who can be your trusted advisor. Find someone who has the experience and knowledge to guide you. Surround yourself with people who can help you reach your goals.

5. Exceed Expectations - Be determined, dependable and responsible for your words and actions. Become the "go-to" person in your group.

6. Set Realistic Goals - Set goals that will stretch your capabilities. Build on the successes of smaller goals. Reward yourself after you reach each goal.

7. Use Your Time Wisely - Manage your time or be mismanaged by it.

8. Help Others - Mark Twain once stated: "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." Successful people know the importance of helping others.

9. Offer Solutions - Don’t find fault; find a solution. Separate yourself from those who make excuses, complain or are judgmental of others. If you make a mistake, turn it into a learning exercise.

10. Maintain a Positive Attitude - Believe in yourself, visualize your future success and develop a can-do attitude. Success breeds success.

BUS DRIVERS

We are requesting all parents who make use of bus transport to remind the bus drivers of school hours. We will inform the bus drivers as well. Bus drivers should NOT leave the school grounds before 3:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students make appointments to see teachers after school and are then left behind by the bus drivers who want to leave after school. Bus drivers may NOT leave unless ALL students are on the bus, even if it is after 3:30pm. Bus drivers may NOT leave students behind who are meeting with teachers after school. Many students are not making appointments with teachers to discuss their problems out of fear that they will be left behind. We are requesting parents to please support us in this matter. Please speak to the driver of the bus your children are using and remind them of these arrangements. This arrangement does not count for students who are merely wasting time by talking to their friends or hanging around the tuck shop.
