The History Cup 2009

Congratulations and well done to Mustafa Tapya, Paola Ishimwe, Shaznann Bhimani and Shilpa R. Patalia in 9.1 for winning this years History Cup; they faced serious competition from challengers Jayesh Kerai and Nuzhat Khalfan in 9.2 but managed to win with a fair margin of 146 votes to 133.

The challenge involved Year 9 Students researching a key part of Tanzanian history – The Maji-Maji Uprising. In groups they had to plan, organise and create suitable resources and activities for a Year 7 lesson about the Uprising with clear learning objectives. This enabled them not only to reinforce their knowledge and understanding of the topic but gain an insight into some of the rigours of teaching. Their work was presented to other members of their respective classes and voted as the best by their peers to represent their class.

These lessons were then taught by the Students to the members of 7.1 who in a secret ballot voted for the most engaging and innovative lesson.

Well done and congratulations again to Mustafa Tapya, Paola Ishimwe, Shaznann Bhimani and Shilpa R. Patalia

We look forward to next years History Cup!
